Nils Halberg
Professor Nils Halberg is a cancer biologist and group leader at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane, Australia, internationally recognised for his work on obesity associated breast cancer and immunometabolism. He completed his PhD in obesity and metabolic disease at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2009 and postdoctoral training at The Rockefeller University focusing on cancer progression. Since establishing his independent laboratory in 2015, Professor Halberg has led a research program that defines how metabolic stressors such as obesity rewire tumour and immune cell biology to drive cancer initiation and progression. His work has attracted substantial competitive funding and is published in leading journals including Nature, Cancer Cell, Nature Biotechnology and Nature Cancer. He is an active mentor of early career researchers, serves on editorial and grant review panels, and contributes to international scientific agendas through his role on the Endocrine Society’s Annual Meeting Steering Committee.
