Hayley O'Neill
Dr Hayley O’Neill is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Bond University whose work examines how the body adapts to weight loss across dietary, surgical, and life-stage transitions. With a foundation in basic muscle physiology and adipose tissue biology, she integrates mechanistic science with clinical obesity research to better understand energy balance regulation, metabolic adaptation, and long-term weight maintenance.
Her research spans whole-diet patterns, meal timing interventions, and bariatric surgery, with a particular focus on resting energy expenditure, body composition, and neuroendocrine responses. She also has a special interest in women’s health and the metabolic transitions associated with menopause.
Using advanced metabolic phenotypic techniques, Dr O’Neill’s research program aims to clarify why individuals respond differently to obesity treatments and how interventions can be optimised for sustainable outcomes. She is committed to translating rigorous metabolic science into practical strategies that can be embedded within clinical care.
