Dr Shannen Walker

Dr Shannen Walker is an early career researcher at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute where she also completed her PhD. Shannen’s PhD work focused on how the mitochondria and in particular mitochondrial dysfunction leads to neurodegeneration during ageing. This led to validating a number of potential genetic targets that were identified through this work. Now, Shannen uses this knowledge to understand the molecular pathways that are altered and may lead to or protect from cardiometabolic disease with a translational focus on identifying possible therapeutic targets.
